The original 5 MTV VJ’s
“JJ Jackson first gained prominence while working at WBCN in Boston in the late 1960s, then at KLOS in Los Angeles for ten years. Jackson was one of the first DJs to introduce Americans to The Who and Led Zeppelin.
He was a music reporter for KABC-TV when he was tapped as one of MTV’s original “fab five.” As a VJ, Jackson hosted the long awaited and much anticipated “unmasking” of KISS. He was one of the few African Americans to DJ an “album rock” radio station.”
Wouldn’t it be great if there was a station on TV that played music videos and live in studio performance and that was all they played?
No gameshows, no cartoons, no reality shows, no talk shows.  Just great music.  Somebody should start a TV station like this.  I think people would like it.

“It’s time for Canada to boldly go where no country has gone before.”

That phrase leads off a Facebook page calling for Canadian-born actor William Shatner to be named Canada’s next Governor General.

About 10,700 people have signed on to the page suggesting Capt. Kirk beam into Rideau Hall once Michaelle Jean beams out.

[…]

Other possibilities include John de Chastelain, a former chief of defence staff and Canadian ambassador to the United States, Inuit leader Mary Simon and Reform Party founder Preston Manning.

A Facebook page set up in March to promote Manning for the vice-regal position has less than 500 fans.

On Facebook: Help nominate William Shatner for Governor General of Canada

(h/t Rishi)

Fun fact: my father was born in Canada. Another fun fact: I would move there if Shatner became the… uh, whatever, captain of Governor General person. Dead serious.

"No, tea baggers believe stupid shit because they want to. It’s willful ignorance. They spin outrageous theories because they know that the naked truth about what they believe would make them look like giant bigots and big meanies. So, instead of saying, “I don’t want health care reform because I like a system where poor people are shut out because that means I don’t have to see them in my doctor’s office,” they start yelling about the slide into socialism. Instead of saying, “I’m an incredibly selfish person who wants to keep my government-funded Medicare, but I don’t want to see that single mom down the street get health insurance because she’s a slut and I want to see her suffer,” they say that Obama’s trying to take their Medicare and that’s socialism. They’re not confused because they were badly educated and don’t have a grasp on critical thinking. In fact, I think a lot of us would be surprised to find that the person hollering ignorant shit about Obama’s birth certificate often turns around and is highly competent at a job that requires the cognitive skills they don’t bring to their politics. They’re willfully ignorant, and this distinction should never be forgotten when trying to understand them."
